Ayesa Digital unveils two AI-based solutions for a more efficient and sustainable industry

Participates in the Industrial Decarbonization Forum held at the BEC and organized by Basque Energy Cluster together with other clusters and SPRI.

Showcases progress on the Demelek and Datuetan R&D projects, developed with support from the Basque Government’s Hazitek program.

Ayesa Digital has presented two of its Artificial Intelligence-based solutions at the Industrial Decarbonization Forum, coordinated by SPRI and organized in collaboration with Basque Energy Cluster, Aclima, AFV, ClusterPapel, Siderex, Acicae, and Hegan. The event took place at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC) in Barakaldo.

Specifically, the Basque technology services company showcased the Demelek and Datuetan R&D projects, developed with the support of the Hazitek program of the Basque Government’s Department of Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability. Both initiatives are aimed at optimizing industrial processes and making them more efficient and sustainable.

Sandra Seijo, AI Project Manager at Ayesa Digital, opened the presentation with the Demelek project, which focuses on developing solutions based on predictive models, as well as new flexibility services for demand electrification using quantum computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Big Data technologies.

With the ongoing growth of electrification across the economy, the Demelek project seeks to create a more resilient and flexible power grid capable of integrating large-scale electrification without compromising sustainability. To achieve this, the initiative involves researching and developing new tools for the analysis and optimization of complex electricity grid scenarios, enabling uncertainty to be incorporated into decision-making processes for integrated demand electrification. This approach aims to prevent grid congestion while accelerating the transition toward a cleaner and more sustainable economy.

The 30-month project, running through December 2027, is led by i-DE within a consortium comprising Ayesa Digital, Sener Ingeniería y Sistemas, Ariadna Instruments, Veltium Smart Chargers, Iberdrola Clientes, Saltoki Bizkaia Electricidad, Vidrala, Fundiciones Fumbarri Durango, EBI Talleres Electrotécnicos, and the technology centers Ikerlan, i3B, and Tecnalia.

Meanwhile, the Datuetan project integrates advanced methodologies covering all critical phases in the lifecycle of an Industrial Artificial Intelligence project. It has been specifically designed to meet the demanding requirements of the heavy industry, steel and metalworking, and process manufacturing sectors.

In this context, Ayesa Digital presented a use case for Datuetan focused on optimizing an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), the core reactor of electric steelmaking plants that melts recycled scrap metal through high-power electrical discharges to produce new steel batches.

This solution enables continuous mathematical predictions and consumption monitoring, among other functions, resulting in the precise calculation of the thermal tapping point to minimize inefficient overheating. Consequently, it optimizes energy consumption during the final stage of the process.

Progress on the Net-Zero Basque Industrial SuperCluster Initiative

During the Industrial Decarbonization Forum attended by Ayesa Digital, SPRI also shared updates on the current status and progress of the Net-Zero Basque Industrial SuperCluster initiative. This was followed by a presentation from i-DE addressing the role of the power grid in Basque industry, with a focus on flexibility and reinforcement investments.

The session also included a roundtable discussion on flexibility as an opportunity for industrial consumers, featuring representatives from institutional, industrial, and technology organizations.

In the second part of the event, Tecnalia presented a report developed within the framework of the Net-Zero Basque Industrial SuperCluster initiative on the potential of emerging electrification technologies. Subsequently, Idom delivered a presentation on industrial electrification case studies.

The Industrial Decarbonization Forum concluded with presentations of industrial decarbonization solutions and services by Margube, Telur, and Ayesa Digital, as well as the launch of the D&S Industry trade fair, which will take place from November 3 to 5 at the BEC.
